WEST ORANGE, NJ — On June 2, township residents gathered in the Community Room of the West Orange Public Library for its Dedication Program.
West Orange High School (WOHS) String Ensemble students welcomed attendees by regaling them with beautiful songs.
Mayor Susan McCartney welcomed everyone and spoke about the lovely, state-of-the-art library. Library Director Dave Cubie also addressed attendees, talking about finally being settled in the new facility.
New Jersey State Library’s Jen Nelsen provided keynote remarks. She shared, “Of all the new library building dedications I’ve been to, West Orange had the largest community turnout!”
After more music from WOHS students, Mr. Grossman and his WOHS woodworking students presented a sign that they crafted for the library. Dr. Marge Mingin, Library Board President, unveiled the plaque.
The Friends of the Library offered tours of the building, and then Town Historian Joseph Fagan spoke about West Orange sharing the Orange Public Library in 1858, and how West Orange’s first library became one of its first branch libraries. His presentation featured many historical and vintage pictures.
